
Error Messages
1. Try restarting your computer.
- Click on Start
- Click on Shutdown
- Choose 'restart the computer?'
- Click 'yes' or 'OK'
2. Make sure that the modem is installed and the
phone line is running to the modem correctly.
3. Is the dialer pointing to the correct modem?
- Go into Dial Up Networking and find your PCS connection you use to dial the
internet.
- Right click on it and go to Properties
- Where it says 'connect using' verify that the correct modem is selected
4. Do you have any software that may be using the modem? Fax software, chat programs, download programs, etc..... If you do try closing the program.
The computer you are dialing is not answering.
1. Verify that you are dialing the correct number.
Ottumwa 56k = 682-9552

Oskaloosa = 672-1718
a. Is it dialing a 1 or the area code?
b. Is it dialing anything before the phone number?
2. Check the settings on your Dial Up Networking connection.
- Go into Dial Up Networking and
find your PCS connection you use to dial the internet.
- Right click on it and go to Properties
- Click on Server Types
- Make sure the only 2 things checked are Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP
- Click OK
3. Try restarting your computer.

4. Try uninstalling the modem and then reinstall it.
You have been disconnected from the computer you are dialing
1. Verify that you are using the correct
username and password
a. Make sure you are not trying
to log in with your email address: username@pcsia.net
b. Make sure there are no spaces in your username or
password.
2. Check the settings on your Dial Up Networking connection.
- Go into Dial Up Networking and
find your PCS connection you use to dial the internet.
- Right click on it and go to Properties
- Click on Server Types
- Make sure the only 2 things checked are Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP
- Click OK
3. Try restarting your computer.

- Click 'yes' or 'OK'
4. Create a new Dial Up Networking connection
- Go into Dial Up Networking
- Double click on Make New Connection
- Enter a name different from your old connection
- After connection is made check the settings (see above 2.)
5. Try uninstalling the modem and then reinstall it.
The Microsoft Dial Up Adapter is not installed
***Note that you should have your original Windows CD-ROM or disks available before beginning these steps.
1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Network.
2.Click the Configuration tab, click Add, click Adapter, click Add, click Microsoft in the
Manufacturers box, click Dial-Up Adapter, and then click OK.
3.Click OK
4. Restart Computer
NOTE: You may receive version conflict error messages during this process. If this happens, click No when you are prompted to keep a newer version of each file.
Error 629 The port was disconnected by the remote
machine
1. Does it ask for your username and password more than once? If so see: Why does it keep asking for my password after I type it in?
2. Check the settings on your Dial Up Networking connection.
- Go into Dial Up Networking and
find your PCS connection you use to dial the internet.
- Right click on it and go to Properties
- Click on Server Types
- Make sure the only 2 things checked are Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP
- Click OK
3. Make sure that Microsoft VPN Adapter is not selected under connect using.
- Go into Dial Up Networking and
find your PCS connection you use to dial the internet.
- Right click on it and go to Properties
- Where it says 'connect using' verify that the correct modem is selected
4. Make sure TCP/IP is installed
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then
double-click Network.
- Is TCP/IP listed?
- If not, Click Add
- Select Protocol and click Add
- In the Manufacturers box select Microsoft
- Select TCP/IP and then click OK

Error 676 The line is busy
1. Dial the number on your phone. Is it busy?
2. Verify that you are dialing the correct number.
